Want to visit a fun place with good food and a piano bar? Look no more, head to George's Steak House in Appleton. Check the website for when the piano player is performing and join the fun. Owned by "Edie" since 1976, this is a family owned restaurant that feeds and entertains.
Atmosphere****
You walk in to what may seem a bit eccentric; however, this a supper clube so the decor is fitting. The dimly lit bar invites you for a drink or two. Behind the bar is an "oil dropping" chandelier that is quite the centerpiece. Dining area is typical but gives you plently of space.
Clientelle***
Good mix of patrons with most over 50. Seemed like many people were locales and a few travelers as well. Many come for the piano bar which started around 9 pm. Overall, a happy, friendly, crowd.
Drinks***
Everything that we tried was very good. Well-stocked bar and typical bar setting. Very experienced bartender (over 20+ years at George's).
Food**
Out of four entrees, two were excellent, broiled and stuffed haddock. There other two were just okay. We will need to go back to settle this and order some new things. Salads were good and soup was average.
Hospitality*****
This was certainly a high point for us. We spoke with Edie and she was very friendly and told us about the history of her business. Very welcoming from staff and other customers. We enjoy great conversations from owners and staffers - and yes, even the piano man.
